In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, there are some tricks to help you level Restoration faster than it would normally.
For any of these tips, I suggest equipping as much Magicka Regeneration equipment as you can, as well as items that reduce the cost of Restoration spells. The cheaper and faster you can cast spells obviously, the faster you’ll level up.
Level Restoration With Spell Stasis
There is a spell book you can find in Labyrinthian called Equilibrium. Equilibrium depletes your health and turns it into magicka. If you equip Equilibrium in one hand, and Healing in another creating a stasis where your health is going down about as much as your magicka is going up. You’ll be gaining skill points in both Alteration and Restoration at the same time.
Labyrinthian can be found south-east of Morthal, on the path from Whiterun to Morthal, however the spell book is located in a section of Labyrinthian that can only be access through the Staff of Magnus quest in The College of Winterhold quest line.
Level Restoration By Getting Damaged On Purpose
Sure, you can heal yourself when you’re in a dungeon, but you won’t level your Restoration very quickly that way.
One way to level up Restoration and any armor skills quickly is to turn the difficulty down as low as it will go, and find a group of enemies to hit you while you heal yourself. Obviously you’ll want to take along some magicka and health potions when you do this, since it will deplete your magicka.
An alternative method is to go to High Hrothgar, where the monks teach you how to do your shouts in the main quest line. Out on one of the areas up there is an area with a blizzard that depletes your health if you stand in it. You can stand in this area and keep healing yourself for an essential stasis of damage and healing depending on your healing power. Be careful as this can kill you if you’re not careful.
Level Restoration With Pickpocketing
If you’re ok using a rather “cheap” method to level Restoration extremely fast, then simply find a Restoration skill trainer, buy a skill point, then pickpocket the money back. Colette Marence in The College of Winterhold is a Restoration trainer. Keeper Carcette in the Hall of the Vigilant, which is south of Dawnstar is as well. Danica Pure-Spring in the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun will also train you in Restoration once you complete a quest for her.
This trick is only effective up to 51 skill points unless you have a pickpocketing skill of 100, since after 51 skill points the cost is increased by 1000 gold, making pickpocketing much more difficult.
