Begin a coop game without signing into another profile. This will cause your henchman to have the exact same abilities as you, so it is more beneficial with higher abilities. On the second controller, simply discard all of his ablities and then have him leave the coop game. Your primary character will have all of the experience from selling the abilities to apply to whatever you want.
