Gamespot recently interviewed David Perry, chief executive of Gaikai, a cloud gaming service. Cloud gaming would be the games you see on facebook, where the servers run the game for you and cut out the need for beefier consoles and PC’s.
Perry said a lot of things, and basically talked a lot of crap about every other gaming platform out there, essentially touting cloud gaming as the wave of the future.
If you ask me, it’s easy to make such statements when you have invested heavily into the platform and want it to succeed so you can get a bigger paycheck.
Sure, the “free to play, pay for extras” model is making a lot of companies a ton of money, but does it spell death for every other gaming platform out there? I highly doubt it.
If anything, I see it driving the PC and console markets to make changes in order to compete with the cloud market.
