Leveling up quickly is usually the primary goal in a game like Fallout 4.
Every time you level up, you gain access to more perks, which can make you stronger or make your life easier.
You also gain more health every time you level up as well, which means you can survive a bit longer.
I have compiled a list of tips to help you level up as quickly as possible, without any cheating. I don’t believe in exploits to level up quickly, what’s the point in playing if you do that anyway?
Tips to Level Up Quickly
1. Farm Side Missions
Side missions are your bread and butter for leveling up quickly. They’re usually pretty straight forward, like “clear this town” or “clear this building” and since you’re typically earning several hundred XP per mission, they are really some of the best XP in the game for leveling up.
Once you reach the Cambridge Police Station and meet the Brotherhood of Steel, you’ll get constant side missions from Scribe Haylen and Knight Rhys. Also, once you progress in the ranks of the Brotherhood and gain access to their airship, the Prydwen, you’ll gain access to even more side missions, and be rewarded with much more XP per mission as well.
2. Look Smart with Intelligence Gear
You should always keep a set of Intelligence apparel on you at all times, and equip it before turning in missions. Every point of Intelligence at the time of turning in a quest gives you a small bonus, but trust me when I say that this will add up over time.
3. Get Some Rest
When you’re Well Rested, or even better, with the Lovers Embrace buff (from resting near a maxed out companion that’s currently following you), you get quite a bit more XP than normal. There really isn’t any reason to not look for a bed for a quick nap right before you turn in a mission. Stacked with Intelligence gear makes this even better.
4. Take a Seat
Sitting down gives a small XP buff as well. It’s not nearly as effective as sleeping, but there are a ton of chairs out there in the world, and not nearly as many beds. If you are about to kill a bunch of enemies, take a seat first, and then go to town.
5. Embrace Your Inner Idiot
There is a perk in the Luck tree called Idiot Savant that will randomly give you 3x or more XP (depending on the amount of points you put into it)Â for any action that grants some.
This is really only beneficial early in the game, as the chance decreases considerably the with higher Intelligence scores. Intelligence has some really nice perks, so you’ll probably want to invest in it eventually. Early in the game however, Idiot Savant can net you some really large XP gains.
