In Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS, the stars that show on your save file signify what you’ve done in the game.
Here are the stars that you can unlock on your save file, and how to get them.
First Star – Defeat Bowser in World 8’s second castle
Second Star – Clear all stages in the first 8 Worlds
Third Star – Beat Bowser in World 8’s second castle again after beating him in Special World 8’s castle
Fourth Star – Collect all 290 Star Medals, not including Star Medals from Mystery Boxes
Fifth Star – Clear all stages with both Mario and Luigi, collect all 290 Star Medals, and have a Golden Flagpole on each level
Glittering Stars – Never die five or more times in a row on any level
