Smart casting is a high skill level use of your abilities & spells in League of Legends. Enabling smart casting can give you faster reaction times since it requires less button clicks, however it may take you some time to get used to.
How does smart casting work you might ask? Well to smart cast, you must first setup the key bindings for your smart cast buttons. You can set them to an entirely different set of buttons if you like, but most people choose to simply replace the default ability buttons on QWER.
Once you have the key binding set, all you have to do is hover over your target with the mouse and press the key and the skill will fire. If it’s a skill shot like Blitzcrank’s Rocket Grab or Olaf’s Undertow, it will immediately shoot in the direction of your cursor. This can mean much faster reaction times when trying to land that skill shot, since you don’t have to click on the target for the spell to cast.
Choosing to smart cast a self-only buff will simply self-cast the spell no matter what you have your cursor over.
