Getting gold stars in Rock Band isn’t easy for your average player, and getting them in Rock Band 2 is just as hard. Â Actually, they didn’t change the requirements at all in Rock Band 2, the process is exactly the same, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people out there don’t know how to get these elusive gold stars. The requirements are actually much simpler than you might think.
1)  You MUST be playing on Expert
2) Â You must get a certain amount of points, generally an extra 50% more points than what is required to get 5 stars.
This applies to all instruments, no matter how many people are in your band, even while playing solo.
For example, if you’re playing on expert and you get 5 stars at 170,000 points, then you should get gold stars at around 255,000 points. Â Very simple, just keep an eye on the score when you hit five stars, and multiply that by 1.5 and you’ll have your magic golden number.
You don’t have to get 100% on the song, you don’t need to keep an endless multiplier going, but these things do help obviously. Â Getting 100% on expert doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to get gold stars either, since it’s based on score and score alone. Â You have to use your overdrive wisely, know when to use it, know when the breaks are coming, and know where the heavy parts are with tons of notes.
Hopefully this will help you get those golden beauties.
