In DragonVale for the iPhone and iPad, breeding dragons is what the majority of the game is about.
You can’t breed dragons from the very beginning of the game however, because you’ll need access to the Breeding Cave, which doesn’t unlock until level 7.
The Breeding Cave costs 3,000 coins, and takes 8 hours to build.
Once you have your Breeding Cave, you will be able to place your dragons into it in order to breed new ones.
Tap the Breeding Cave, and it will open up a menu with two slots. It doesn’t matter which slot you place your dragons in, the only thing that matters is the type of dragons you choose to breed together.
Once you have chosen your dragons to breed, press the breed button at the bottom to start the process. Some dragons can’t breed together, so check out my DragonVale Breeding Guide for a list of possible breeding combinations.
Once you have an egg, it will take some time to hatch. Different eggs take longer to hatch than others, and the more rare dragons can take quite a while to hatch, which can sometimes give you an idea of which typo of dragon you might get from it.
You can also build the Epic Breeding Island later in the game, which increases the odds of getting the rare dragons.
