So far in Diablo 3 for the PC, there is one spot in the game that stands out among the rest for gold farming.
The spot I’m talking about is the Royal Crypt, which you come across during the Sword of the Stranger quest in Act I.
**UPDATE** This has been nerfed and doesn’t give nearly as much gold as it used to. If you have secondary spots you’re having success with, please leave comments below.
There are a ton of pots and sarcophagus’s in the beginning of the crypt, in a fairly condensed area.
The reason this spot is so effective though is because it can be done on Inferno difficulty wearing Gold Find gear, because there are only a couple of skeletons in the entrance area. If you’re playing on Inferno difficulty with Gold Find gear though, you won’t want to venture too far into the crypt, since you’ll run into some ranged skeletons that might have their way with you.
Your Gold Farming Setup
Basically what you’re going to do is load up on as much Gold Find gear as you can afford, go to the Royal Crypt and farm the first large area with all of the pots before the area where you see the ghost of the Skeleton King. Once you’ve cleared it, teleport to town and reload your game then do it again.
You want to try to be as fast and efficient as possible. The more time you waste, the less gold you’ll make per hour. Ranged classes can do this much faster than melee classes for the most part.
On Inferno difficulty with a little over 100% Gold Find, you should be able to pull in around 250k per hour (as a ranged class). If you invest in a little more Gold Find gear to get close to 200%, that should bump it up to almost 300k per hour, once again depending if you’re ranged or melee.
The more Gold Find gear you can get the better, up until a point of course. Some of the higher GF gear in the game will cost ridiculous amounts of gold on the Auction House, so you may have to find some of it naturally over time.
Another thing that will boost your hourly rate is to bump up your pickup radius a bit, that way you spend less time going out of your way to pick up the drops. I didn’t give this one that much credit at first, but I’m finding it a huge time saver the more radius gear I get.
This can obviously be done at lower difficulties for a lower gold per hour rate, and it is still one of the more effective places in the game to farm gold when you need it.
