In Bayonetta for the PS3 and Xbox 360, there is an alternate method you can use to unlock characters if you have some extra Halos.
In Chapter two after Verse 3 on any difficulty, look for the area with the phones on the plaza. You’ll see three phones total. There are two together, and one out by itself, which is the one you want for unlocking characters. Use the phone with enough halos to input the following codes, and you’ll unlock the character. Directions are all using the dpad.

Jeanne – 1 Million Halos – Up, Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B (Circle on PS3)
Little Zero – 5 Million Halos – Up, Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, X (Square on PS3)
