There are a lot of bonus parts you can unlock in Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS, most of which are unlocked by collecting coins in Grand Prix mode.
Parts that are purchased with coins are unlocked in random order, and the Golden parts are the only exception requiring specific accomplishments or coins.

In Grand Prix mode, collecting coins will allow you to purchase most of the kart parts in the game. The parts show up in random order, so they are different for everyone.
